About this blog

I started this blog to document my recovery from a back injury. In the process I've opened my eyes to, not just getting fit, but a whole new definition of healthy. That's what happens when you're laying around the house with back pains and watch tons of FAT/HEALTH/FOOD documentaries. Hope to impress myself later when I look back at earlier entries and possible help someone else.

I’m all new to the healthy eating world. So what do I do, find documentaries on netflix! Yesterday evening I watched “Fork over Knives” and “Vegucated”. I thought they were quite informative. I’m always a skeptic about things, and really want to dig into all the studies more. But for now, I’ll go ahead and agree that whole foods lifestyle is healthier than a meat-filled diet. Wth that said, I started to look for some vegan recipes to try out for when I’m done Juicing. BTW I’m considering vegan over vegetarianism because of the films. Animal product all together are “bad” even milk and cheese.
The first thing people do when crossing over to this side do is, find substitutions. Soy egg, cheese, etc. Fake meat is probably most desirable. So, on allrecipe website come across vegan chilli. And I do love myself some good chilli. In it they use a “texture vegetable protein” for the ground beef. I went to amazon, because I buy everything from Amazon, and they had one that was highly rated and reviewed, Bob’s. Aspiring to be healthy and not just earn the title Vegan or whatever, I decided to find out more about it. So, I googled it. Here’s what I found:

This is one review that I read. I obviously have to do more reading about it. Also there might be a good “meat” replacement out there that covers all the bases. At any rate this is a nice review on the product with great explanation. This might change your mind if you just saw all the good reviews at Amazon.com. I’m probably going to pass on textured meat for now.
